Sehr geehrter Herr Bunk, Stuttgart, den 17. April 2001

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, Stuttgart, 27 February 2001

Error report for MMa 4.1.0.0, platform X
----------------------------------------

I just had several unexpected Mathematica exits, which asked me to report this
problem to support@XXXXXXX.com in the same window, in which I had started MMa.

Errors reported in command window
---------------------------------

SIGSEGV, SIGBUS .

Mathematica working report
--------------------------

The attached notebook transistorFitTree010227.nb was running correctly before
these unexpected events !

I was trying to add several comments into the code as inline documentation
for this notebook's operation.

I was editing the attached notebook inside the definition of the function
readTransistorfile about in the line 80 and before it.

The MMa Help Browser window was open, and another MMa window was open as well,
in which I wanted to check the correctly working loading of this package by
using

  << transistorFitTree010227.nb

When I added the comments in the lines before the very first Close[ dataFile ],
MMa exited the very first time.

When I tried to repeat adding comments, now partly in the sequence

 (* *)

and _then adding_ the comment's content inside these brackets (* *),

MMa exited the second time.

In a further trial I saved the notebook after adding two or three comments,
then MMa first added multiple ;;;;;;; as a response to pressing CarriageReturn
at a place in the file different than the current cursor position.

This error could be corrected by an undo operation.

One could assume that the multiple ;;;; are a hint to a malfunction of the
keyboard I use at this workstation.

But I did not see such problems up to now.

I were pleased for a short response from your side, as I depend on MMa in the
work I am doing - MMa is my key tool !

Many thanks for your support !

Sincerely

Gunter Woysch File : mail_01/wolfram_010227_email_to

Dr. Woysch,

Thank you for the report. I was able to reproduce the SIGBUS error, and
have notified the developers. This problem appears to be related to comment
parsing in automatically generated packages. You should be able to work
around the error by breaking your package source into smaller cells, each
bracketing one function, and placing comments in stand-alone Text cells. As
long as the Text cells are not marked as Initialization Cells, the comments
will not be included in the auto-generated package. Additionally, you will
want to keep inline comments to a minimum.

Thank you for your help. Please let us know if you encounter any other
problems.

Sincerely,

Schoeller Porter
